Tata Nano: The World'S Least Expensive Car

Tata motors, India's largest auto maker is all set to launch the Tata Nano car. The manufacturing brand deserves applause for making real, the conceptualization of Mr. Tata, who once said that the Tata Nano car just happened by chance. The much awaited Tata Nano is ready to hit Indian roads in March 2009.

With the launch, India will be the pioneer in introducing the world`s least expensive car, the Tata Nano and it is likely that may other auto manufacturers will follow suit. Tata Nano, a compact hatch back is equipped with all the basic features without compromising on quality and performance.

Features Galore:
Tata Nano is a two-cylinder driven car with an Engine capacity of 625 CC powered with 33 BHP. Tata Nano can travel up to 20 to 25 km per liter of petrol and can attain a maximum speed of 90 Km. Tata Nano car has passed the necessary rigors of testing, such as the 'Full Frontal Crash', a test that evaluates the impact strength of a car. What's more, Tata Nano has complied with Euro-4 emission norms for environmental qualification tests.

The Flipside:
On the flipside, Tata Nano car in the base version is sans AC. The bumpers are just bonded to the body. These steps have been taken to cut manufacturing costs but consumers are assured of quality and performance. In order to reduce weight, Tata Nano makes use of less or reduced steel and has an aluminum engine. Lightweight steel has been used wherever required, contributing to the cheap price tag.

People's Car:

Tata Nano has been popularized as people's car and rightly so. It is every common man's dream and will be transformed into reality very soon. The common man has begun bee lining in the showrooms to book the Tata Nano car. The difference in pricing with other cars is too wide and this seems to be quite encouraging for the car maker.

By deciphering the initial feedback on the small car, suitable up gradations will be made. Most Indian families will be more than pleased to own a car, rather than a two wheeler.

Good things often come in small packages and this is exemplified by Tata Nano. The fleet of cars on Indian roads is definitely going to be on the rise. Better infrastructure is the need of the hour to evade traffic catastrophes.

Tata Nano car sans AC would be available for 1 lakh rupees while the one equipped with AC will cost around 1.4 lakh rupees. Although the performance of the car and customer satisfaction is yet to be seen, Tata Nano has certainly set the standards high as far as small car pricing is concerned. This will encourage auto giants to come up with competitive pricing for the models yet to be launched.

As the launch date is nearing, the excitement level is at its peak, to watch the first Tata Nano roll out of the company dealerships. The nation is foreseeing resurgence in the auto industry, and how the compact Tata Nano performs, time will reveal.

Toyota on the Race With Small Car Selling in India

India is Asia’s fourth largest car market. In a report by Bloomberg.com, it seems that the market is about to get bigger with the world’s biggest automakers trooping over, lead by Toyota which is reportedly planning to dominate India’s auto industry, and rivals Honda, GM, and Volkswagen on the same track.

Included in the report is the interview with Toyota’s Chairman Fujio Cho who was quoted saying, “We are thinking about several countries to make the new car; India may be the first,'' There were no further elaboration made by Toyota’s chairman, however we can sense that Toyota is on its expansion plan.

By selling five hatchback models, Suzuki’s local unit, Maruti Udyog Ltd. has a 50 percent share of the 1 million car unit per year of India. Along with Honda Motor Co. and Nissan Motor Co., Toyota plans to sell small hatchbacks to tap a segment that comprises three-quarters of all the vehicles sold in the South Asian nation.

“For Toyota to continue increasing profit, it needs to expand in markets like India,'' said Ichiro Takamatsu, a chief investment officer at Alphex Investments Co. in Tokyo.

“There is enough room for Toyota and other companies to share the growth in India, as more people will be able to buy cars.'' he added.

To put their plan into action, Toyota Motors is also planning to build a new factory in India to add to the one in Bangalore City, said Mr. Cho.

On the other hand, Honda Motors, Japan’s second largest car maker is also targeting a double production capacity of its plant in India to 100,000 by the end of the year. Another factory will be opened sometime in 2009 that will offer more variety of car models and segments including small cars.

Also in the race is the world’s biggest auto maker, GM (maker of original GMC AC condenser) that already started their sales of their first mini car in India last April.

The European Volkswagen is also working on the introduction of a hatchback on the Polo model by 2009.

Suzuki’s local unit, the Maruti Udyog will be changing its name to Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. With this change, the company plans to raise its production capacity to 960,000 cars by the end of March 2010. This is a part of their 1 trillion yen ($8.7 billion) five-year global expansion program.

With a lot of large car industries planning to enter the Indian Auto market, the annual car sales India is expected to triple to three million in 2015 according to government estimates.

Auto Repairs - A Free Source For Help

I am man! Watch me not read the instructions or ask for directions! Hey, you have to admit these clichés are true. When it comes to repairing your car, asking for help is simple, free and often a good move.

If you haven't been effected by the economic meltdown, you are one lucky person. Personally, I've stopped watching the news. I don't know if we are in a recession, depression or what. All I know is my house isn't worth much, my retirement account is so low I'll be retiring right when they bury me and I'm not alone in this situation. If you're like me, you are giving a lot of thought to how you spend your money. Maybe I should say that you're thinking a lot about how not to spend money. Welcome to the frugal America.

It isn't going to change your situation, but one area where you can save a few bucks is on your car. Contrary to the way things appear these days, the modern car is not a device dreamed up by aliens. You can actually work on it yourself. You can definitely save money by doing the basic maintenance yourself - change the oil, check the belts, flush the radiator, etc. Ah, but what if you run into a bigger problem?

Auto repairs are not brain surgery. Assuming your engine isn't shot, you can change out most parts of your car without needing to call in a pit crew from NASCAR. The key is to understand what you are getting into. I realize this goes against the manly mantra, but reading up on it before hand and watching some videos online can be a huge help.

Once you dive into your repair job, you inevitably are going to run into something that you need an answer to. Here is where you are introduced to the last bastion of real customer service in the world - the auto parts store. When you run into a problem, the people behind the desk at whatever store is in your area are a fountain of advice -free advice.

Obviously they want you to buy something, but they see giving advice as a marketing tool. I've actually gone in an out of store no less than four times in a day to ask questions when trying to change out a fly wheel on a car. I felt so bad I actually bought a case of oil I didn't need. Regardless, the advice I was given saved the day.

Admitting you need help can be difficult. When it comes to your car, you should bite the bullet. Turning a small repair into an engine replacement is not a good idea. Ask the guys who actually work on cars all the time. Their friendly and will give you the answers without rolling their eyes!

Important Advice on Budget Tyres For Sale

Essentially, there's no one specific reason for owning a car. While some require one strictly for business purposes, others simply want to own one as a matter of personal choice. Likewise, the make and model a person chooses to buy is also determined by a range of different reasons. Considering just how long cars have been around, it can be said in all certainty that they are likely to still be around for many years to come. Whether you own a car in order to provide a service, to transport goods from one location to the next, or simply for family transport, the fact remains that owning a car practically eliminates all common transport problems.

While it's certainly worthwhile owning your own car, sooner or later everyone is faced with having to replace tyres. Of course, with tyres generally being expensive, more and more motorists are now turning to budget tyres in order to reduce running costs. However, when one decides to shop for budget tyres, its imperative that you look for durable, quality assured tyres. Furthermore, in addition to quality, they need to be cost effective.

As with choosing a car, people decide to buy budget tyres for a variety of reasons. While some simply buy a single budget tyre to act as a spare in case of an emergency, others choose to use only budget tyres on their car. Fortunately there are budget tyres to suit all tastes and requirements so before you go ahead and purchase your tyres, you should always ensure the ones you buy are the best ones available for your specific requirements. Of course, one of the main benefits of buying budget tyres is that you'll be able to use the money which you saved, on other essential expenses.

One aspect you need to be aware of, is that you don't want to experience problems in the nearby future due to the tyres you bought. While it may not seem necessary, there are steps one can take in order to minimize the risk because buying blind can actually end up costing you more in the long run than it would have if you bought regular tyres.

While slow air leaks may appear to be nothing more than an annoyance, they can also be a potential accident just waiting to happen. Likewise, you should inspect tyres regularly for nails, screws or other sharp objects, whether they're budget tyres or not. Another responsibility of motorists wanting to get maximum mileage out of their tyres, is to have the wheel alignment checked every once in a while. Interestingly enough, bad wheel alignment is the leading cause of excessive wear and tear on tyres.

Remember, when one considers just how vital tyres are to your personal safety, one should never be willing to compromise. While all car tyres should be changed at regular intervals, budget tyres in particular should be replaced every ten thousand miles. Furthermore, because weather conditions can have a dramatic effect on tyre pressures, frequent checks should be carried out at least once each month, if not more. Likewise, as a responsible motorist, one should regularly inspect your tyres, as faulty tyres can of course prove to be fatal. Having said that, in the vast majority of cases, it's the driver who is to blame for an accident, rather than the tyres.

If you are looking for cheap budget tyres make sure you visit Brian Kirklands cheap car tyres website for free professional advice on what tyres to buy and when to buy them, Brian has over 40 successful years experience in the tyre industry

Cheap Petrol Or Gas? How to Run Your Car on Water

All over the world as fuel prices have hit an all-time high, everybody (including myself) drives around looking for the cheapest petrol / gas station but it just doesn't exist anymore. Petrol and Diesel prices aren't going down anytime soon, so if you want to save money, you have to find alternatives.

What are the alternatives to petrol/gas and diesel?

Surely if there was an alternative, the whole world would know about it already? That's what "they" want us to think... Our governments wouldn't allow such a breakthrough to spread like wildfire. Imagine, if everybody knew about the cheapest possible alternative to a fuel that makes some nations super-wealthy, the entire oil industry would collapse, leaving many countries' economies to completely collapse as some countries rely near-enough 100% on selling oil. As the article's title suggests, it isn't lying to you... Water is the cheap "fuel" alternative to filling up your car with petrol or diesel! Yes. Water. It is free-flowing from a local tap near you.

How can I run my car on water?

The method of running your car using water is quite a new concept and involves following a do-it-yourself guide to making simple, reversible modifications to your car so it can accept plain tap water as fuel. Once you've made the modifications to your car, it will start using the hydrogen in the water as its main source of engine power; then you can enjoy running your newly converted, environmentally-friendly car, travelling twice the distance you previously could with the same amount of petrol / gas or diesel.

Running your car on water will save you an incredible amount of money long-term, and modifying your car to operate using the hydrogen in water is a painless exercise when you follow a simple do-it-yourself conversion-guide.

Visit driveyourcarwithwater.co.uk to download your conversion guide and find out exactly how to run your car on water and start doubling your mileage for less money

Dealing With Car Paint Scratches

Regardless of how careful you are with your car, the paint will eventually get scratched. When this happens, the key is to fix the scratch correctly to both avoid further damage from the elements and make it look good. In this article, we cover how to do it.

Car scratches can happen in many ways. I have a good friend who bought a Jeep he just loved. He babied this thing like it was a Ferrari. After a year, the Jeep looked brand new and ran just as nicely. I borrowed it for a day and, of course, scratched the top on the garage door opener in my garage! Yes, he still brings it up to this day. No matter how careful you are with your car, it is going to get a scratch. They say death and taxes are the only two sure things in life. They're wrong. Scratches in car paint are a definite third. Fortunately, repairing them isn't too difficult.

The first step is to get touch up paint. This is also the most critical step. It needs to be an exact match for your paint or the repair is going to be obvious and look bad. This is one time where going to the dealer and paying a bit extra is a really smart move. You're sure to get the right color and avoid problems.

Now, analyze the scratch. If the paint is just scratched, you are in good shape. If the paint is scratched and the metal is bent in, you are not. The metal will need to be popped back out without compromising the paint. I suggest taking it to a professional. You don't want small repair becoming a big one.

Assuming we just have a scratch, our first repair step is to thoroughly clean and dry the area around the scratch. Take a piece of steel wool and pike a pencil through it so that the point is covered in steel wool. Lightly rub along the scratch to clean it. Do not try to remove any more paint. You are just trying to make sure the scratch groove is clean and doesn't have any rust. Once done, wash and let dry.

Read the directions on the touch up paint. I know this is difficult for us men, but some paints have peculiar make ups and require certain steps to be taken. Assuming yours does not, shake up your touch up paint vigorously. Now take the brush out and start at the bottom of the scratch. Feather the paint on in one direction. Add enough paint that the groove is filled, but does not overflow. Go slowly or you run the risk of making a big mess.

Once the color coat has dried, you will need to repeat the process with a clear coat that should be included with the kit. After that, just let the paint dry for a day or two and then buff it out. Your car should look good as new...or at least as good as the rest of the paint job.

Motorcycle Fasteners, Rusty Crusty

Okay, so it's not as glamorous as riding a restored Vincent, but I would like to share some ideas about dealing with threaded fasteners. When working on a Vintage Motorcycle, we are likely sooner than later, to have to deal with a bolt or screw that decided to weld itself into its opposite sex's dissimilar metal. If it took twenty or fifty years becoming affixed, it might take a couple of hours or days to make it free at last.

When you are acquiring tools, go for the good stuff. Call the Snap On man or stalk the truck and cry only once for the initial acquisition expense.

A driver that fits the fastener is essential. Tactical feel and magnified optics can be useful in deciding if you are dealing with a phillips, Reed & Prince or Posi. It is far far better to stop and consider your options, than to round out a fastener head. Air impact tools are nice (albeit not cheap or quiet) for coaxing stuck fasteners loose and are just about indispensable for a few tasks, a Harley compensator sprocket nut for example. Going medieval with a chisel and BFhammer is not the answer.

For smaller stuff, especially the Phillips (or their cousins) on old British steeds, a hand impact driver can be very helpful. Use a short handled, heavy headed hammer for this.

The plastic covered Standley dead blow hammers work well. Choke up on the handle for more control. If you use a steel headed hammer, it would be a good idea to wear eye protection and grind the peening off the edge of the impact driver from time to time. Letting the web of your thumb get between the driver and hammer is a very bad idea.

Some judiciously applied heat via propane torch or heat gun might help here, especially if the uncooperative bolt threads into an aluminum or rarium unobtaimium alloy case, where the thermal coefficient of expansion is on your side. Be cognizant of nearby wiring or oil lines. Be advised that aluminum doesn’t glow before it melts, it just melts. You shouldn't be getting it anywhere near this hot. Work the fastener before the heat soaks into it, the idea being to allow heat to expand the female part.

Penetrating oil, a few taps and time can work wonders on overcoming stuckness. Kant Rust, perhaps available at your local hardware store or sprawl mart, works reasonably well. The best that I have found is Kroil, available from Kano Laboratories. www.kanolabs.com/ Send for their free brochures on chemical solutions to mechanical problems Their Floway cleaner is also useful for another less than glamorous undertaking on a Vintage Motorcycle. Kant Rust smells, Kroil really smells. They smell bad. Plan for some ventilation and if you are married don't do this in the kitchen. Use some penetrating oil, a few gentle taps and give the Kroil overnight to creep. Time for a barley pop?

If you do round off a head or break it off, rest assured that there is nothing easy about an EZ Out. The easy part is done. Now comes the hard part. The value of your pride and joy (or just your commuter scooter), has been reduced to that one miserable bolt of dubious and questionable ancestry. To proceed, finding the exact center of the mangled part is of the essence for successful mitigation, and not effing up its mating part. If you have some hole depth for indexing, this would be a good time to acquire and utilize a set of transfer punches.

Lacking this luxury, use a diamond or similar round abrasive, less than half the OD of the damaged fastener, with a die grinder or dremel, along with good light and magnified optics, grind an indentation as close as possible to the center of the cursed broken thing that a center punch and drill tip wont walk on. This would be a good time for some more penetrating oil and barley pop, and perhaps postponing proceeding until tomorrow. Breaking off the EZ Out (harder than any drill bit known to man) won't help at all, trust me. If the EZ Out is slipping, a gentle tap or two on the end will help engage the flutes. Don't get carried away, you don't want to expand the OD of the wretched broke thing.

Properly fitting driver tools, heat and good penetrating oil can make you victorious, if you don't loose your patience. Hopefully there is no need to deal with Helicoils or Keenserts and we are back to the easy part, our knees in the breeze in no time.

Custom Car Audio

Although car audio installations are best done by professionals, real electronic geeks find great pleasure in installing the audio setting by themselves. There are literally hundreds of "do it yourself" help available on the Internet. You also have a great number of printed material on the subject. By following the steps, one can install a custom car audio system with relative ease.

Custom car audio installation is perhaps the most exciting aspect of having a good car audio. The first thing you need to do is to do a thorough analysis of your requirements. Planning is of utmost importance. Then you start with the installation of the amplifiers first. Installing car audio amplifiers is one of trickiest things that you can encounter. To begin with, acclimatize yourself with the wiring diagram. Choose a place which is a non-conductive surface and try and place your amplifier there, all the while being guided by steps provided by either through online resources or through user manuals. One good thing about installing car audio amplifiers is that you can always have a professional do the installation, should you find it cumbersome.

You can then go through the entire process step by step, like installing the car audio capacitors, placing the speakers at proper locations, and then connecting the various components involved in a car audio system. By following the guidelines given in various car audio guides, you can carefully connect the different parts with appropriate wiring. Once done you can check for the audio output. If it does not sound good, then you can try rectifying the same yourself or better still seek professional help. One can become pretty good at car audio installation with "trial and error" method. Constant practice would enable you to install your custom car audio, with relative ease. Check out online car audio installation guides, which can equip you with the "what's what" on car audio.

Car Audio Amplifiers

Car audio amplifiers, to a large extent, determine the final audio output of your car audio. Selecting a location for the amplifier is therefore of great importance. Select a location that has good air circulation. It could be in the trunk or under a seat. It is always recommended that you use cables with larger diameters like RCA cables to connect the low level output of the radio to the low level input of the amplifier. Just in case your radio does not have a low level output, you will have to use a high-level speaker output. This arrangement is not preferred by most because of the noticeable increase in sound distortion. This arrangement works best when your amplifier is meant for bass only.

Another thing to take care of is the connection between the power antenna lead from the back of the radio to the amplifier. One can go through the user manual to find out the recommended gauge size for getting the right power and ground cables. It is always recommended that you connect the ground power cables before the RCA cables, to avoid damage.

A good fuse should be a priority for the system. Check the owner's manual for the proper rating of the fuse. Another important thing to note while installing amplifiers is that to ensure that the power cables do not run next to the RCA signal cables. If the cables are too close, it may lead to unwanted noise. If you have noise you are not able to stop, try using a noise filter. It can cut down the noise to negligible levels. The gauge cables for the amplifier ground or negative and the amplifier battery or positive should be the same.

Try to place your amplifier on some solid piece of metal, either in the body or the frame of your car. This is an important process, because most of modern day cars are built with fiberglass and finding a good ground conductor is always that much more difficult.

Car Audio Installation

Car audio installation is a fairly specialized job, requiring at least some knowledge about the basics of car designs and electronics. The final audio output depends to a large extent on good installation. You may buy the best equipment, but if it is not properly installed, then the result will be poor. The entire set up consisting of wires, amplifiers, alternators, and speakers would have to be perfectly set up for that great audio effect.

Speaker location is perhaps the most important part of setting up your car audio. Determining where you are going to place your speakers is the first step you have to take. The designs of cars are such that the listener isn't placed perfectly in middle of the two speakers. What we mean to say is that the distance between the left speaker and the left ear is not the same as the right ear and the right speaker, which is a traditional audio setup. You can easily avoid this problem by making the distance between the left and right as little as possible. Some people try to place an extra speaker on the dashboard. The problem with this is that this speaker on the dashboard rips the sound into two, making for unpleasant hearing. You can try placing the audio in different locations around the car and arrive at the proper configuration for your speakers. Another mistake which commonly occurs is that people tend to go for looks rather than the sound, when it comes to car audio. Try to listen, rather than look. Some unlikely places inside your car may be the best for placing speakers.

Choosing the location of subwoofers and amplifiers is relatively easy. You can place them where you feel they will look good. One thing to keep in mind, though, is that different equipment may interfere with each other, if improperly placed. The next step is the wiring part, which is equally important. The thing with laying cables is to buy the correct cable keeping in view the capacity of the amplifier and speakers. Next in line is the installation of the head unit and amplifiers. Once you install them, you have to select the correct type of speaker enclosure. Although the choice is yours, you can try different types of enclosures and choose one which gives the best audio output. A final fine tuning, preferably with professional help and your car audio installation is done.

How to Increase Fuel Efficiency - 7 Tips to Improve Your Gas Mileage

With the steady increase in fuel costs, many people are looking for methods to increase their vehicle's fuel efficiency.

Here are 7 tips that will help increase your vehicle's gas mileage and you don't even need a hybrid to save hundreds of dollars per year.

1. Drive slower - Driving slower can significantly increase your fuel efficiency by up to 30% as speeding raises your revolutions per minute (RPM). Driving slower will also keep you out of trouble from the police.

2. Inflate your tires - Always inflate your tires to the correct air pressure on a regular basis. Doing so can raise your gas mileage by up to 3% which over a period of a year can result in an extra few hundred miles.

3. Remove excess weight - Remove any unneeded weight in your car such as any luggage or other accessories. It may even make sense to remove your car seats if you don't intend to use them.

4. Keep your engine maintained - Be sure to replace your oil when necessary and to do change out your air filters when they get dirty. Always take your car to a certified mechanic to ensure that everything is in working order and that your car has no problems.

5. Plan more fuel efficient routes - Planning your trips ahead of time can help a great deal in improving fuel efficiency by choosing routes with fewer cars and less traffic congestion. It will also help get you to your destination on time without having to speed.

6. Avoid excessive idling - Keeping your engine idling without moving burns fuel so be sure to turn your engine off if you don't plan on driving for the next few minutes such as if you're waiting for a friend.

7. Avoid using your air conditioner if possible - Using your AC also contributes to lower fuel efficiency so only use if you absolutely have to. On the other hand, keeping your windows down will increase your car's drag which will lower your fuel efficiency even more.

These steps are very easy to implement and if you remain consistent throughout the year, you can easily begin to see a significant increase in fuel efficiency.

In addition to these above gas saving tips, you can also participate in promotions to get free gas cards by visiting http://www.freegasgiftcards.info

A Traditional Sports Car - The AC MKV

A truly exhilarating car - that's the AC MkV. Very much back to basics, this AC, based on the forbears of the AC-Shelby Cobra lacks the bells and whistles of soft supercars. Instead, you get raw power, and control is down to you - not a horde of electronics systems. The car can get to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 145 mph - held back by an intentionally old-fashioned body shape, albeit in new materials.

Original Shelby Cobra based on AC Ace

The original AC Shelby Cobra was based on the AC Ace, a two-seater open sports cars powered by a modest 2.0 liter six-cylinder engine. The twin-tube frame had transverse leaf springs and independent suspension front and rear. Quite advanced in its day, but the suspension did not locate the wheels that well.

AC Cars, one of the oldest British car companies, has been revived several times, and various sports cars have been designed, but never quite made it - or not for long. Now, the firm has gone back to its roots. It is supplying Shelby Automotive with aluminum bodies for its Cobras, and has introduced its own car - the AC MkV, which is being marketed in Europe and the USA.

So is there room for another hard-core sports car that looks like all those Cobra replicas? Well, with the AC MkV you get the original, the car is complete, and the body is made from advanced materials. Most of the replicas are kit cars. Not everyone wants to spend three to six months building a car.

Retains the 60s look of the Cobra

Of course, the car looks like a Cobra, complete with the oval grille, small circular headlamps and wide flared rear fenders. A small air intake below the grille, and two small side air intakes give the car some identity. The body is made from carbon fiber composites, unlike the earlier model, or the Cobras, which have aluminum panels, or the lookalikes which make do with glass fiber.

Twin-tube frame and wishbone suspension

The basis of the AC MkV is a ladder-type twin-tube frame made from 4.0-inch steel tubes, as it was on the earlier MkIV which went out of production in 2002. Double wishbone suspension is used front and rear, and these links have a rather narrow base compared with more modern supercars.

Conventional coil spring/damper units are used all round, and roll is controlled by front and rear anti-roll bars. The steering is by rack and pinion.

Into this frame is installed a Ford 5.0 liter V-8 engine and six-speed manual gearbox. In European trim the engine develops 340 bhp @ 6,000 rpm, and is red-lined at 6,800 rpm, giving a good speed range. Maximum torque is 369 lb ft (500 Nm) @ 4,800 rpm.

The AC MkV is a taut lightweight sports car which has the brakes, wheels and tires to match - 7 inch rims at the front and 8 inch at the back. Kerb weight is just 2,643 lb (1,200 kg) giving a power-to-weight ration of 280 bhp per tonne. You'll get neck-snapping acceleration to match many more exotic cars, and a lot of fun.

Portable 12 Volt Refrigeration Compressor Technology

There is no need to buy a 12 volt DC to 110 volt AC power inverter to run your 110 volt AC refrigerator or freezer from a 12 volt power source. Not only is this a dangerous way of getting the job done it can also get very expensive and there are some other options out there. We know of some awesome 12 volt DC mobile refrigeration technology and we can't wait to share it with you. It starts with the patented Swing Motor.

The Sawafuji Swing Motor is a true reciprocating compressor; it has only one moving part. It doesn't get any simpler. The piston is connected to an electro dynamic device which is powered by the use of magnetic fields. With this technology there is no need for bearings, cranks or con-rods, so less moving parts means less chance of failure. With only one moving part there is a very low friction loss which means this is a highly efficient compressor.

It has no high start up current draw because when it starts up it can simply move down just a fraction then return. Then it slowly increases the distance the piston travels each stroke until it reaches a full stroke. The Sawafuji Swing Motor does not need to perform a full stroke on start up unlike many rotary type compressors that must perform a complete cycle and need much more current to start.

Because this is purpose built and designed to be a portable refrigerator compressor it has to be engineered to take the harshest of mobile and high vibration conditions.

Convenient transportable freezers/refrigerators that run on any 12 volt power source. They can be used in airplanes, cars, trucks and boats of just about any size - basically anywhere there is a 12 volt power source (including wind generators and solar panels). 12 volt refrigeration is a wonderful idea for those living in remote areas too.

A combination of performance, durability, lower power consumption and consistent reliability are all things you should look for when considering which brand of portable refrigeration is right for you.

For some people just a basic 12 volt or rechargeable cooler will get the job done. But when you need maximum storage space and incredible cooling or freezing power with very little battery draw you must consider some other options. Most smaller less durable brands have a life expectancy of a year or less.

To date we there have been about 3.6 million units using the Swing motor sold world wide.

Solar Energy Panel Component Considerations

When you are considering installing a small solar energy panel system for your home, you need to take into consideration the different components that you may want to use. This is a little more detail than you may need as most solar panels will come with a version of some of these components in the box.

The Solar Panels

Retail prices for single crystal panels are about $6 per watt, multi crystal panels are around $4.50. When it comes to solar panels, there are three basic types of panels available:

Single crystal panels are the highest in quality and efficiency, which work very well under semi-sunny conditions, like in coastal regions where the number of sun days are minimal.

Multi-crystal panels are a little less efficient (up to 20% less), but they are also less expensive. If you live in a very sunny area then you might do just fine with those. BP, Siemens, Astro, Evergreen, Kyocera are some of the manufacturers of both types of panels. In addition, Photowatt which only produces multi-crystal is an excellent brand.

Thin Film Panels, the third type of panel construction, is called Amorphous Film Technology. These panels are far less efficient, and their life span is much shorter. They often are flexible and find their application on boats, cars, RVs etc. But there is no reason why you can't start here as a learning point.
In addition to the location you are living in, your solar system voltage also determines which panels you need to purchase. Smaller panels between 50 - 100 watts come in 12 volt panels, while bigger panels 120-175 watts are typically 24 volt panels. In the end it all depends on the combination of location, system requirements, and budget.

Racks

You need to mount your panels onto something that holds them in place. "Fixed racks or trackers"? is often the question. A fixed rack continuously points the panels to the south, with the ability to adjust the angle for the seasonal position of the sun. A tracker moves with the sun from east to west giving the panels best exposure to the light

Inverters

This device converts DC to AC power. It takes your low voltage from the batteries and creates the 110 or 220 volts AC that most households work on. Two types of inverters stick out, the True Sine Wave (TSW) and the Modified Sine Wave (MSW) inverter. The True Sine Wave Inverter delivers very clean electricity at a considerable higher cost than the Modified Sine Wave Inverter. Most appliances run fine on the MSW Inverter.

Charge Controllers

Two types dominate the market: The Multistage Controller and the Power Point Tracking Controller. The latter one is called PPT, which through an ingenious design, delivers 15 to 30 per cent more power than the former type. The price on the PPT controller is roughly twice of the Multistage, so it may or may not pay for you to have that extra performance. The PPT controller performs best in cold climates or when extra length of cable from the panels to the rest of the system is required.

The Batteries

If you need batteries for a stand-alone solar system, it has to be a full-size battery bank with a good reserve for 3 - 5 days.

The deep cycle lead acid battery is the type most commonly used in a solar system. Both the gel type and the glass mat-type are service free. However, they tend to be a little more sensitive and often don't last as long as the flooded type lead acid battery, which requires maintenance.

Batteries come in many sizes. A very commonly available size is the "golf cart battery" or the T-105 type. At 6 volts with 220 amp-hour, you need to connect several in series and parallel to create 12 volt or 24 volt systems. They are relatively inexpensive and very robust and last about 5 years.

Other considerations

Combiner and junction boxes as well as disconnects are all substantial part of each system. This can be a simple circuit breaker box for under $100 or fancy Power Panels climbing into several thousands of dollars

In smaller systems you can get by with separating the individual components. For example, monitoring equipment often is included in charge controllers. For disconnects you can use conventional breaker boxes.

I have a new blog on Solar Energy. This will have some useful tips , as well as the latest news. You can find it at http://solarenergy.tumblr.com/

80's Hard Rock Hits - Loud and Proud

The big 80's certainly had their share of diversity. Pop, top 40, one hit wonders, and the big name bands who have been around for quite some time. This time let's showcase the the darker side of 80's rock hits. The rough around the edges music known as Heavy Metal. Sure, it was unpolished, maybe even socially unaccepted but it was what it was. No apologies, no excuses. Just loud, fast, heavy metal rock. No one said it had to be pretty. You either loved it or you hated it. I don't think anyone fell into to "I tolerate it" group. Pretty much a black and white issue.

I remember a certain concert I attended in the mid 80's called the Monsters Of Rock tour. Van Halen was the main attraction, but they were almost over shadowed by all the opening bands. The Scorpions, Guns N Roses, and Great White just to name a couple. This particular concert was held in Candlestick Park in San Francisco. I don't know about any of the other concert dates, but this one had open seating. Where ever you could find a place, was where your seat was. We eventually made it down to the "infield" where the mosh pit was. Talk about a wild group! Sweaty bodies everywhere, and not an inch to move. I loved every minute of it. Fellow head bangers just enjoying the sound we all were in a craze for. The traffic, the long wait for tickets, it was all worth it for me.

Other super groups to grace a stage in the 80's, include Tesla, AC/DC, Metallica, Megadeth, and countless others I will fail to remember. The common thread they all shared was the hard driving thunder called head bangin' rock. Quite possibly, no I'm certain, the loudest three piece band in the world is Rush. I cannot believe how much sweet noise those three guys put out. Tom Sawyer and thier over the top album Moving Pictures is a constant in anyone's rock hits collection. Tesla hit it out of the ball park with their sophomore effort Mechanical Resonance. Modern Day Cowboy is a personal head bangin' favorite of mine. Metallica's Master Of Puppets is another. The original speed metal band in their prime. Megadeth and Dave Mustaine were also a force to be reckoned with. Sweating Bullets is a sure fire way to get me motivated for just about anything. Not to mention that while working out, aggressions just seem to melt away. Ozzy Osbourne is another one we can't leave out. Shot In The Dark, Crazy Train, and No More Tears are all songs I know all the lyrics to. I often wished I had enough intelligence to play a musical instrument so I could actually play along with these great 80's music hard rock hits. Oh well, I'll just have to be satisfied with playing the only instrument I know how to play, the radio.

I have to be honest here, though. I really have to be careful when driving and I have one of these c.d.'s playing. I tend to drive a little too fast. Coupled with the fact that all the cars I own are stick shift cars, I think I have a nascar on the road!! So, a word of warning, monitor your driving while listening to these classic rock hits!! It is far too easy to have a lead foot while cranking up the tunes.

Now lets see if I can leave you with a little hard rock trivia. What was the name of one of Ozzy Osbourne's guitar players he considered his musical soul mate? Randy Rhodes is the one I'm talking about here. Randy left us way too early, but his musical genius still lives on with classic heavy metal hits from Quit Riot. Mama, Were All Crazee Now. Another personal favorite of my own.

So hopefully this article sparked some more memories deep within you. Play it loud, play it proud and for more 80's music trivia and hits please visit http://80srockhits.blogspot.com/

California Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) - Early Actions For Refrigerant Gas Management

A summary introduction to the Stationary Equipment Refrigerant Management Program and California Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32). Changes are pending in 2009 with legal compliance reporting as early as 2010.

The California Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32), first passed in 2006 with additional early actions taking effect in 2010, is a broad and comprehensive directive with the goal of reducing greenhouse gasses (GHGs) by approximately 25% by the year 2020. This objective of the early action stems from increases in carbon equivalent emissions in California since 1990. The intent of the legislation to reduce greenhouse gasses to their 1990 levels, thereby reversing 16 years of pollution in less than 14 years.

As part of the California Global Warming Solutions Act (AB 32) the Air Resources Board (ARB) has approved an early action measure to reduce high-global warming potential (GWP) greenhouse gas (GHGs) emissions by establishing new legislation and defining requirements related to improved monitoring of AC/HVAC systems, enforcement of regulations, reporting of refrigerant usage, and recovery, recycling, or destruction of high-GWP refrigerant gases.

The greenhouse gasses (GHGs) as defined by the California's AB 32 are identical to those gasses identified in the Kyoto Protocol. These gases are already being regulated, monitored, and managed by many other countries around the World. In addition to carbon dioxide (CO2), which is the most widely known GHG, the following gasses are also defined as GHGs with high global warming potential (GWP) carbon equivalent emissions by the AB 32 legislation:

- Methane (CH4): a byproduct of waste decomposition, and natural geological phenomena; the majority of methane is derived from natural gas drilling.

- Nitrous Oxide (N2O): a pollutant created by industrial processes, motor vehicle exhaust, and industrial air pollutants reacting with the atmosphere; similar to methane (CH4), nitrous oxide (N2O) is often attributed to agriculture and waste disposal.

- Sulfur Hexafluoride (SF6): a gas used for various electrical applications, including gas insulated switchgear. Sulfur Hexafluoride is also used for experimental applications.

- Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs): a collection of commonly used refrigerant and aerosol gasses with a wide variety of other commercial applications. CFCs and HCFCs are considered Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs), as defined in title VI of the US Clean Air Act (Section 608).

The Stationary Equipment Refrigerant Management Program developed by California's Air Resources Board (CARB) is a protocol and detailed requirements for the management of new or existing AC/HVAC systems containing refrigerant gases. The refrigerant management programs details requirements for automated monitoring of systems, detailed usage and service book keeping, and the credentials to manage related to service technicians and their recovery equipment.

The proposed Stationary Equipment Refrigerant Management Program, which integrates two AB 32 early action measures, addresses the detailed monitoring and management of the PFCs and HCFCs noted above and includes tracking requirements for new and existing commercial and industrial refrigeration systems. In draft form today with implementation by January 2010, the refrigerant management program will require leak monitoring, tracking, and reporting of warming potential (GWP) refrigerants. First phase, roll-out is expected to target AC/HVAC systems containing 2,000 pounds or more of refrigerant gas.

CARB is charged with the monitoring GHGs and high GWP gasses, as well and the eventual development and enforcement of specific and quantitative new regulations covering carbon related emissions which refrigerant management with the tracking, reporting, cylinder management, and gas recovery for stationary refrigerant and air conditioning (AC) systems all becoming key integral parts.

California's early action protocols may include additional fines or fees related to missing refrigerant usage records, unaccounted refrigerant gas inventory, or non-compliance with refrigerant tracking reports. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is an extension of the EPA and works to monitor and enforce the US Clean Air Act. Section 608 of the Air Act regulates refrigerant gas usage, leaks, recovery, and annual reporting.

The overall intent of CARB's strategy is to monitor and reduce the introduction of man-made GHGs and high GWP gasses into the atmosphere, as called for in the California Global Warming Solutions ACT (AB 32) in effect since 2006 with tighter controls, monitoring, and overall regulations becoming enforceable by early 2010.

Refrigerant gas monitoring, tracking, and management are important business planning considerations. Just like organizations manage assets, like a delivery truck, the consequences the release of high GWP gases, such as refrigerant gases, must be consider. Refrigerants cost money, harm the ozone and environment, and are subject to mandatory carbon emissions reporting. As organizations with AC/HVAC systems containing refrigerant gas of 50 pounds or more will soon find out, the effective monitoring, management of data, and systematic reporting of refrigerant usage will be key to business success in our emerging carbon economy.

To learn more effective refrigerant management tactics and the tools that support them, you can contact Daniel Stouffer, the Product Manager for Refrigerant Tracker. This web-based software makes it easy to monitor, manage, and report refrigerant gas usage. Stay in compliance with refrigerant management regulations. Ways to Stress

So your experiencing a little stress in your life are you? Well I have some good news, you are the one that is in control of your stress. Actually you are the one that is causing your stress! Hang on now, don't get all defensive on me. Allow me to explain.
You probably are blaming the stress that you feel on some external issues, for example, your job, money issues, school, relationship issues, the health of someone that you care about, etc.
When I say You are the cause of all of your stress, what I mean is that the stress you are feeling, that you blame on some external issue is caused by you, I mean that it is not the issues that cause the stress, it is how you deal with stress.

For example, lets say the air conditioning on your car quit working in the middle of august and you lived in Texas. That alone would qualify as a stressful situation, lets add that your mechanic told you it was going to cost $1200 to get fixed, and you did not have $1200. Well now I would say that could send some people into a full blown stress attack! And would probably leave a stress mark.

Lets go back to where I said that you were the cause of your stress. In this particular situation you would probably say that the lack of money to fix your a.c. Was the cause. The truth of the matter is that the lack of money is just the lack of money. In other words "it is what it is". The reaction is to be stressed out over the situation. So pay attention to that last sentence: I said it was the "reaction" or in the way you chose to deal with the situation.

What if you chose to deal with the situation in a calm and relaxed manner? Without the added and unnecessary stress. Because the fact of the matter is you have an a.c. Not working, and don't have the funds to repair it. That is the reality whether or not you stress out about it or deal in a calm and relaxed manner. Either way you will find a solution to the problem.

You get to choose, find a solution without the stress, or with the stress! The problem is what it is, to suffer from stress is your decision. And dealing with stress is kind of like hitting yourself in the head with a hammer, now you have a headache and no air conditioning! Doesn't make a lot of sense.

One of the first things to realize and accept is that there is a solution to every problem. You can search for that solution in the least stress full manner or the most stressful manner, your choice. You can always find things related to stress.

Of course it is easier said than done, that is for sure, especially if you are accustomed to finding ways to stress. If you will visit my blog and you will find some excellent techniques that you can employ to make it second nature. Just go to http://www.steviesinsights.com

How to Save Money While Driving

For those of us who drive on a regular basis, you will already know the importance of keeping tyire pressures at their recommended pressure. This is particularly important if you regularly cross speed humps or bumps, or drive roads that are bumpy where you can loose pressure. Readings should always be taken when the tire are cold; for those of you who live in hot countries, this might mean keeping the vehicle in the shade overnight and getting up early before the sun heats the tires up.

There are several other measures you can take to reduce your fuel consumption. When driving, anticipate as far as possible. For example, if you are approaching traffic signals and they are red, there is no point in reaching them too soon if there is a chance they might turn green (and assuming you are not in heavy traffic where you might create and obstruction to cars behind you). Since you use most fuel accelerating, the less you do, the more you save. If possible (particularly in dual-lane roads), stay behind large vehicles. Since they are effectively blocking the air in front of you, they are saving you a lot of fuel. Of course, you need to stay a safe distance behind them. Slower-moving vehicles provide an excuse to drive slowly, Don't pump the accelerator with your foot, simply apply a light a touch as possible (known as 'feathering'). On an undulating road, try and avoid picking up speed going uphill if the road is likely to go downhill (where it is less damaging to your precious fuel).

Route selection can save you even more money. The shortest route is no necessarily the most fuel-efficient, particularly if it involves congested roads or junctions. Slow-moving traffic is not good for your engine, which prefers constant speeds. Likewise, if the shortest route involves a substantial climb, this will not help your economy. Depending on the characteristic and length of an alternative, a longer, flatter route might be less expensive. Finally, many drivers have access to covered storage (garage, sheds, etc) - use it if you have one. When the temperature drops below 15 Celcius/59 Farhenheit as you start your car from cold, it is extremely likely that you engine will use considerable fuel to get the temperature to operating conditions, and to power systems such as heat or air conditioning. Keeping your vehicle free from exposed cold conditions will save you a lot of money.

Air Conditioners - Creating Our Comfort Zone

Summer is rapidly approaching which means many warm days. To cool you off after a hot afternoon in the sun most people rely on their delightfully cool home AC. Air conditioning is able to cool and dehumidify the atmosphere in the home so that you are comfortable and have an enhanced breathing environment. We use these cooling systems religiously in the warmer months of the year, but do we really know much about them?

For your indoor environment to remain comfortable and to prevent the air from becoming stale you must run an air conditioning system. The job of your cooling system is to remove heat from indoor environment using something called a refrigeration cycle. It also has two chief functions, process and comfort.

Usually part of an HVAC (heating, ventilating, & air conditioning) system, this device can come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Air conditioners can either be room cooling devices or central cooling devices and come in several variations within each type. Free-standing portable units are useful if you want to be able to easily pick up your appliance and move it from room to room, depending on where you need the most cooling. Window mounted units are able to be professionally installed in a variety of different windows. Wall mounted units are mounted through the wall, which can give a more polished look. Central air conditioning units use ducts to distribute cool and dehumidified air throughout the home or space that is to be cooled. The central AC unit is usually the best way to go because the actual entity is located outside the house so it does not take up space within the home and it cuts down on the noise level that you may experience with an indoor unit.

As well as providing a pleasant atmosphere for homes, AC appliances are also used in buildings, cars, trains, plans, and all sorts of other vehicles or spaces that may need to showcase a comfortable, temperate environment.

All cooling systems should be installed by someone who has had the proper training and has a vast knowledge of the inner workings of the unit. Whether the unit is being installed in a home, office, or car, it is best to leave the installation and/or mounting process up to a professional HVAC company. It is also pertinent to have these systems inspected, on a consistent basis, by a qualified expert. HVAC contractors that possess the expertise can make sure that your system stays working at its peak level of performance and can also make sure that your indoor environment is as safe as possible.

Regardless of where an air conditioning is being used it is still there for the same purpose: to provide a comfortable indoor temperature, to keep the air fresh and better for breathing, and to control humidity.

Ford Escape Hybrid: First Gas-Electric-Powered SUV and Ford Replacement Parts for Its Exceptional Pe

The Ford Escape Hybrid is a fuel-saving, gas-electric hybrid-power version of small, four-door sport-utility vehicle, available with front-wheel drive (FWD) or four-wheel drive (4x4). Its power train has 2.3-liter, four-cylinder gas engine rated 133 horsepower at 6,000 rpm, 129 pounds-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm; synchronous AC electric motor rated 94 hp from 3,000 to 5,000 rpm; 330-volt battery pack under rear cargo floor; electronically controlled, continuously variable transmission. Maximum power output is 155 hp because gas and electric do not make their maximum power simultaneously.

It has a 2.3-liter, Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder gasoline engine with a 70-kilowatt permanent-magnet traction electric motor, regenerative braking and a 330-volt battery pack. The combination provides performance on par with a V-6. The hybrid never has to be plugged in because the engine recharges the batteries, by the electric motor and by heat recovered as energy during braking.

"The Escape hybrid really "wants" to be an electric vehicle, but the gasoline engine adds power for acceleration, charges the batteries and powers the air conditioning," said Mary Ann Wright, Ford's director of Sustainable Mobility Programs

Unlike electric cars, hybrids never need to be plugged into a recharger. Regenerative braking recharges the Ford Escape Hybrid, which converts electric motor into a generator to help refill the battery pack during stops; and by a recharging system powered by the gas engine.

Designed to last for the life of the vehicle and can be found under the Escape's cargo floor, the battery pack, which contains 250 small batteries roughly the size of D cells mounted in series doesn't infringe on cargo space.

The software and computerized controllers that make everything work effectively is the key to a hybrid. Small badges identify the Ford Escape as a hybrid. The instrument panel is a little different because it contains a gauge that shows when the electric motor is the source of power and when the gasoline engine is running. An optional LCD display in the center stack gives instant and average fuel economy as well as a pictorial representation of how the power is flowing at any instant.

The Escape's hybrid engine shuts down at rest to conserve fuel. When driving resumes, the SUV's 70-kilowatt traction motor generator can launch the vehicle on electric power. When it's needed, the generator starts the gas engine without the increased emissions produced when a conventional engine is started.

The Escape Hybrid also produces as little as half the amount of carbon dioxide (greenhouse gas) as a conventional gas engine. It produces 97 percent less hydrocarbon and oxides of nitrogen emissions than vehicles meeting today’s required emission standards. That qualifies it for the Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (AT-PZEV) standards designation.

Being the leader in the development of low emission vehicles, Ford continually develops projects that will someday result in practical hydrogen-powered vehicles with no greenhouse gas emissions.
